Description

On July 16, 1969 at 9:32 a.m., the giant Saturn V rocket was launched from the launch pad in Cape Canaveral on the most important journey in human history. The giant Saturn V consisted of three main stages, was 110 meters high and weighed 3,000 tons. It could carry a payload of 50 tons and reach a speed of 11.2 km / s. The 394,000 km journey to the moon took 72 hours. After reaching a low Earth orbit, the Apollo pod gave the top assembly one last boost from the third stage rocket engines to reach the speed required to fly to the moon. Later the Apollo module detached from the rocket, turned and pulled the moon module out of its protective case. Connected in this way, the combination eventually reached the moon and entered lunar orbit. After several lunar orbits, the lunar module with astronauts N. Armstrong and E. Aldrin on board separated from the command module, in which only the astronaut M. Collins remained. With two burns of the retro rockets, the lunar module began its final approach to the Sea of Tranquility. This historical event will be remembered forever.
