Description
Manfred von Richthofen, the Red Baron and his red Fokker triplane made history in the First World War. On the western front in June 1917, the Fokker Dr. I was only released after a long test phase and after approval by flying ace Manfred von Richthofen. The Dr. I was the most manoeuvrable of all the aircraft in use at the time and achieved high climbing speeds. The Oberursel radial engine (110 hp) gave the Dr.I a top speed of 193 km / h and enabled him to climb to 3000 m in six minutes. Two Spandau MGs were installed in front of the cockpit. All pilots in Richthofen's group flew red triplanes. Although the Dr.I. Withdrawn from the Western Front in late 1917, the Red Baron continued to fly this type to shoot a total of 80 enemy aircraft before being shot down in April 1918.
